Somaliland Political analysis
Somaliland: a stable democracy in Africa!
Forgiving does not mean forgetting

Following the “Union” of 1960 instead of being embraced for willingly giving up their god given right of sovereignty to the cause of greater Somalia the south offered a cold shoulder to Somaliland deepest aspirations of justice and brotherhood by marginalizing the northerners, making them de facto second class citizens in the newly formed state. In addition when he took power in 1969, far from encouraging the integration of the two nations and working about the best logical way in which to help those who had the hope of staying in the “union”, the military dictator embarked upon a campaign that made possible the torture and killings of tens of thousands of Somalilanders.Mass graves do not lie.

To this day most of those criminals (Morgan aka he butcher of Hargeisa, Tuke, Ali Samatar who reduced Hargeisa to ruins) and many others that are guilty of war crimes are roaming free.

Remembering the price paid for freedom while strengthening the spirit of reconciliation is the key to the stability as well as the complete healing of the nation. A nation that has moved on from the mirage of a doomed unity with it’s southern sister country where lawlessness, poor leadership, narrow political vision, clan violence, foreign ill advised interventions and countless other calamities have been the norm for the past 18 years.

In this state of affairs, Somaliland having learned from history would not want to join again or lured to be part of the chaos that has become the predicament of Somalia especially after over 18 years of hard won stability already enjoyed by its peace loving people.

This of course does not mean Somaliland people are not in solidarity with the innocent people of Mogadishu being bombed by their own foreign made government (we have been there before). Needless to say We hope for the prompt restoration of peace in former Somalia Italiana.

This means in concrete terms, a complete cessation of hostilities between all concerned parties, immediate departure of all foreign troops, finally the emergence of a responsible government that in time would seize the opportunity of a permanent peaceful, side by side coexistence with Somaliland. Somalia could even learn from Somaliland time tested conflict resolution mechanisms using such knowledge to heal and recover.

One must remember however that states have no friends but are only driven by interest. As such Somaliland interest is to go it alone recognition or not.

Special Thanks to the SNM Heroes,Artist Dija Dajiya, Hargeisa Municipality for erecting this monument in memory of the many unknown patriots, citizens bombed by engines such as this one .This particular Mig was shot down by SNM Forces in 1988 when Somaliland civilians where being bombed with their own tax money by soviets Migs/Hawker Hunters piloted by Somali Army/south african&rodhesian pilots as part of SIAD BARRE’s final solution to wipe out the Somaliland’s People.
